If there’s one bright lipstick I think every woman should own, it’s a red lipstick. But let me tell you, finding the right red lipstick is no easy feat. While there are many shades and finishes, there is no red that is a one size fits all. For me, wearing the perfect red perks up my complexion, and depending on my mood, I can go darker or brighter or matte or sheer.
Clarins brilliantly came out with 2 new finishes in addition to their cult classic Joli Rouge — Joli Rouge Brillant and Joli Rouge Velvet. There are 20 new shades in each finish and I can say with confidence that you will find a red that is perfect for you.
Keep reading to find out which finish will suit you best!
Joli Rouge Brillant
If you’re a little shy with your brights and want to experiment with some color, Joli Rouge Brillant is the one to try. This finish is the sheerest of the bunch but leaves a beautiful color on your lips without it being too loud. It’s super moisturizing and has Mango oil and Organic Marsh Samphire to really hydrate your lips. The Joli Rouge Brillant is easy to apply and you’ll look so chic with a soft wash of red.

Joli Rouge
For a little more oomph, you’ve gotta try the classic Joli Rouge, a creamy moisturizing formula with a satin finish. Like the Joli Brillant, it’s also very moisturizing and also contains Mango oil and Organic Marsh Samphire. However, this one leaves an intense color on your lips that is comfortable to wear when you want a red that is a bit more sophisticated.

Joli Rouge Velvet
For more of a statement lip, the Joli Rouge Velvet is a fun one to try. It’s ultra pigmented in just one swipe and leaves a matte finish. While this lipstick doesn’t set, it wears for 6 hours and the Organic Apricot and Organic Marsh Samphire will keep your lips hydrated and nourished. It’s a great lipstick to try if you love mattes but don’t like the drying feeling of liquid lipsticks.

Red lipstick can be a little intimidating, so here are some quick applications tips!
– Apply concealer around your lip line to create a blank canvas for your red lipstick. I have pigmentation around my lips and this really helps create a red lipstick look that stands out!
– Use a lip liner first to help you create an even lip shape. This also helps keep your red lipstick on longer too!
– To be really precise, use a lip brush to get into all the nooks and crannies if your lips. You’ll have more control of the color this way.
